  St. Peter's Freshman a Whiz on Wheels

Anthony Tonzola of Bayonne dropped in at the Boulevard Arena, Bayonne and was spotted by the Professional at Boulevard, Jude Cull, saw talent in his skating ability. Tony came to The Skating Club of Boulevard and with coaching from Jude Cull became the 1958 National Sub-Novice Men's Singles Champion in just 2 years. Tony 14 years old was at St. Peter's Prep on a four year scholarship and destined to a bright future.


Anthony M. Tonzola, MD, FACS

Anthony Tonzola, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and medical director of the new Wound Care Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway. Specializing in general, laparoscopic, and laser surgery, Dr. Tonzola is an attending general surgeon and former chairman of the Department of Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway, in addition to holding medical staff privileges at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.

The Wound Care Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway is an outpatient treatment center that provides interdisciplinary and comprehensive chronic wound treatment. The Center uses innovative and proven techniques that focus on not just treating the wound’s symptoms, but healing it entirely by taking a disease management approach that eliminates the cause.

Dr. Tonzola received his Medical Degree and completed his surgical residency at New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ) in Newark, NJ. Previously, he was the chief of the Division of General and Laser Surgery as well as the medical director of Hospice and the Intensive Care Unit at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Rahway (formerly known as Rahway Hospital). In fact, the Rahway Hospital Hospice Unit was the first licensed hospice center in New Jersey. In addition, Dr. Tonzola is an associate clinical professor of surgery at the New Jersey Medical School, University of Medicine and Dentistry.

Dr. Tonzola is currently a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the New Jersey Society of Critical Care Medicine; the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition; the New Jersey Medical Society of Union County; and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Tonzola is married with three children and six grandchildren.
